When it comes to acne, there are typically two types of acne, acne vulgaris which is associated with the hair follicles and oil secreting glands and manifests as blackheads, whiteheads and inflammation. The other type of acne is labeled as acne conglombata which causes deep cyst formations usually with scarring. The most common type is acne vulgaris and many women experience acne in response to hormones circulating in the bloodstream. Testosterone is the major hormonal influence in acne that causes sebaceous, (sebum producing) glands that enlarge and produce more sebum.
